Based on 3 of 4 factors.

How is this calculated?

A 0-100 score computed nightly from four factors: maintained (40%: recent commits and steady activity), popular (25%: GitHub stars, log scale), easy to install (20%: platforms, install notes, setup guides, Docker image) and light to run (15%: minimum RAM, ARM support). Factors without data are left out and the rest are rescaled.

First-install notes

  • Install on every node with a DaemonSet Apply the kube-router DaemonSet YAML (a Kubernetes definition that starts one pod on each node). Without this, pods may not get working networking or firewall rules. source
  • Add the CNI config file for pod networking If you are setting up nodes manually, download the CNI config file and put it in /etc/cni/net.d/. CNI is the plugin Kubernetes uses to give pods network settings, so without this file pods may not be able to reach each other. source
  • Manual container runs need host access If you run kube-router directly with Docker or Containerd, use privileged mode (extra system rights), host networking, and mount (let it use) /lib/modules and /run/xtables.lock on the host. Without those mounts, firewall and routing rules may fail to update. source

Common questions

How do I get notified when new Kubernetes tools are added to the list?

Follow the Kubetools Twitter account for updates on new list additions.

Where can I ask questions about the curated list?

Join the Collabnix Slack community.

What setup checks are needed if kube-router pod networking is not working?

Apply the kube-router DaemonSet on every node and add the CNI config file in /etc/cni/net.d. If running kube-router directly with Docker or Containerd, use privileged mode, host networking, and mount /lib/modules and /run/xtables.lock.

What Kubernetes issue areas are covered by the troubleshooting guide?

It covers resource management, pod lifecycle, node and cluster problems, storage errors, and networking connectivity.
