Health score?A 0-100 score computed nightly from four factors: maintained (40%: recent commits and steady activity), popular (25%: GitHub stars, log scale), easy to install (20%: platforms, install notes, setup guides, Docker image) and light to run (15%: minimum RAM, ARM support). When the source code has been checked, a fifth factor, security check (20%: automated scan for committed secrets, unsafe desktop-app settings, known-vulnerable dependencies and project hygiene; any serious finding caps it at 20), is added. Factors without data are left out and the rest are rescaled.

First-install notes

  • Run the provided Docker command Run the provided Docker command (Docker is a safe container) for your architecture so Restreamer has its web ports and storage set up. The /opt/restreamer/config and /opt/restreamer/data folders keep your settings and media, so losing them means losing your stream setup and recordings. source
  • Open the ports the command uses Make sure ports 8080, 8181, 1935, 1936, and 6000 (UDP) are allowed on your network. These are the web interface and stream-input ports, and blocking them makes Restreamer hard to reach or unable to receive video. source
  • Match the Docker image to your hardware For Raspberry Pi use the rpi-latest image with the provided --privileged flag so it can access cameras and other local hardware. If you have an Intel or Nvidia GPU, use the vaapi-latest or cuda-latest image for faster video processing instead of the generic latest image. source

Common questions

Which Docker image should I use on a Raspberry Pi or with a GPU?

Use the rpi-latest image with the --privileged flag on a Raspberry Pi so it can access cameras and local hardware. For Intel or Nvidia GPUs, use the vaapi-latest or cuda-latest image for faster video processing.

What should I back up to preserve my Restreamer setup?

Back up the /opt/restreamer/config and /opt/restreamer/data folders. They keep your settings, media, and recordings, so losing them means losing your stream setup.

Can I receive video from OBS and publish it to YouTube or Twitch?

Yes, it can receive video from OBS and publish to YouTube or Twitch via RTMP and SRT.

Can I stream input that is not already H.264?

Yes, Restreamer can use other input streams and encode them to H.264. It can also use the audio track and optionally remove it, add silence, or convert it to AAC or MP3.
