First-install notes

  • Run init.sh before starting Snikket From the cloned Snikket folder, run ./scripts/init.sh and enter your real domain, admin email, and accept the Let's Encrypt terms by choosing Y. If you skip this or leave the terms as N, the service won't start and HTTPS certificates won't be set up. source
  • Create your first admin account After starting the service, run ./scripts/new-invite.sh --admin --group default and open the invitation link it prints. Without this step, there is no account to sign in with yet. source
  • Back up your data once it works Once your Snikket instance is up, make a backup with ./scripts/backup.sh /var/backups so chats and settings are saved outside the running service. If the server fails or you move it, this backup is what lets you restore your data. source
