First-install notes

  • Start the proxy on port 3128 Run the provided Docker command to start the proxy, keep port 3128 reachable, and mount folders for the cache and certificates. Port 3128 is where Docker sends image pulls, and the mounted folders keep your cached images and setup from being lost when the container is removed. source
  • Tell Docker to use the proxy Set the HTTPS_PROXY environment variable in your Docker client or Docker daemon to the proxy's address, like http://your-proxy-host:port. Without this, Docker will still try to pull images directly and will not use the proxy. source
  • Trust the proxy certificate If you are using Docker Desktop on Mac, add the proxy's ca.crt certificate to Docker's trusted certificates with the provided command. The CA certificate is the file that tells Docker the proxy's connection is safe to trust, and missing it can cause pull failures. source
