Common questions

Does Remote. It require inbound ports or port forwarding?

No. It makes secure remote connections without open ports or port forwarding and can cross multiple NATs and firewalls. It does not require router port forwarding.

What needs to be installed on the devices?

The remoteit Service Agent is installed on devices that will be connected. For a peer-to-peer connection, it must also be installed on the device that initiates the connection.

Which remote access protocols are supported?

It supports SSH/SCP, VNC, RDP, Mac Screen Sharing, HTTP/HTTPS, and SMB file sharing. Other TCP protocols can be used through the custom TCP option, for example MQTT.

How is access controlled?

Access is per-service and authorized by identity rather than by subnet.

Where should I look if a connection fails?

The help center includes troubleshooting for connection errors, IP restriction and latching on proxy connections, and cases where the service is online but the connection failed.
