Health score?A 0-100 score computed nightly from four factors: maintained (40%: recent commits and steady activity), popular (25%: GitHub stars, log scale), easy to install (20%: platforms, install notes, setup guides, Docker image) and light to run (15%: minimum RAM, ARM support). When the source code has been checked, a fifth factor, security check (20%: automated scan for committed secrets, unsafe desktop-app settings, known-vulnerable dependencies and project hygiene; any serious finding caps it at 20), is added. Factors without data are left out and the rest are rescaled.

First-install notes

  • Raise Elasticsearch's kernel limit Elasticsearch needs a Linux setting called vm.max_map_count to be at least 262144, so run the shown admin (sudo) command before starting it. If left low, Elasticsearch can fail to start and the search features will not work. source
  • Set Elasticsearch folder ownership If you put Elasticsearch's data on a folder on your own machine, set that folder's ownership to 1000:0 (the user and group IDs used inside the Elasticsearch container). Wrong ownership can stop Elasticsearch from reading or saving its data. source
  • Change the app port if 8000 is busy In the docker-compose file, the port line means host port:container port; if port 8000 is already used, set it to 9000:8000 so you can open the app in a browser. Without a free host port, the web interface may not start or you cannot reach it. source

Common questions

What Linux setting must be increased before starting TubeArchivist's Elasticsearch?

Set vm.max_map_count to at least 262144. If it is left low, Elasticsearch may fail to start and the search features will not work.

What user and group ownership should an Elasticsearch data folder have on the host?

Set the folder ownership to 1000:0, matching the user and group IDs used inside the Elasticsearch container. Wrong ownership can prevent Elasticsearch from reading or saving data.

What should be changed in docker-compose if host port 8000 is already in use?

Change the host port in the port mapping, for example to 9000:8000. This lets the web interface start and be reachable in a browser.

Does TubeArchivist include a browser extension?

Yes, it has a companion browser extension for single-click archival. It is available for Firefox and Chrome-based browsers.

Can TubeArchivist be integrated with other media servers?
