Common questions
Does plMail need to run as the actual mail server for my domain?
No, plMail is not a mail server and does not receive mail from the internet or host your domain. It only connects to mailboxes you already have, such as IMAP, Gmail, and Outlook.
Where does plMail store the mail and account credentials?
It syncs your mailboxes into your own PostgreSQL database, and credentials are encrypted before they touch the database.
How do I connect Gmail or Outlook?
plMail supports IMAP, Gmail, and Outlook, and the handbook lists the exact permissions to tick when connecting Gmail and Outlook, including sending aliases.
Can the built-in calendar sync with Google and Microsoft?
Yes, the calendar has two-way sync with Google, Microsoft, and CalDAV, and invitations can be answered in place.
Can I use a local Ollama model with plMail?
You can point plMail at an Ollama box on your own network so it can search mail by meaning.
