Clone VMs locally, migrate between paired Unraid hosts, and maintain scheduled ZFS replicas with coordinated manual recovery. Cold Move and Warm Move support ZFS and sparse file transfers; independent Warm Moves can run concurrently, but still require a powered-off final cutover. Pairing uses restricted SSH operations and requires protocol 7 on both hosts. Recovery requires dedicated ZFS storage, Guest Agent evidence and a reachable, stopped source; native libvirt fencing rejects unauthorized starts before QEMU runs. Use unMotion controls to start recovery-managed VMs. Reviewable problem reports include logs and VM/host details. No live migration or automatic failover. Keep verified backups and follow the coordinated upgrade guide.

Based on 3 of 4 factors.

How is this calculated?

A 0-100 score computed nightly from four factors: maintained (40%: recent commits and steady activity), popular (25%: GitHub stars, log scale), easy to install (20%: platforms, install notes, setup guides, Docker image) and light to run (15%: minimum RAM, ARM support). Factors without data are left out and the rest are rescaled.

Common questions

Do I need to upgrade both paired Unraid hosts together when updating from 0.4.1 or earlier?

Yes, upgrade both peers together. Older versions cannot transfer or coordinate recovery with protocol 7.

Can a Warm Move finish without shutting the VM down?

Warm Move can seed storage while the VM is running, but the final cutover requires the VM to be powered off.

How does unMotion move ordinary or shared image files that are not on dedicated ZFS storage?

It uses native ZFS send/receive for zvols and dedicated VM datasets, with a sparse rsync fallback for ordinary or shared image files.

Does pairing expose broad SSH access between the two hosts?

Pairing uses reciprocal host discovery and restricted, peer-bound root SSH. Protocol 7 restricts the pairing keys to authenticated unMotion operations.

Is a successful preflight enough to rely on a move or recovery?

No, keep verified backups because migration and recovery change VM definitions and storage. A successful preflight is not a substitute for a recovery plan.
