Health score?A 0-100 score computed nightly from four factors: maintained (40%: recent commits and steady activity), popular (25%: GitHub stars, log scale), easy to install (20%: platforms, install notes, setup guides, Docker image) and light to run (15%: minimum RAM, ARM support). When the source code has been checked, a fifth factor, security check (20%: automated scan for committed secrets, unsafe desktop-app settings, known-vulnerable dependencies and project hygiene; any serious finding caps it at 20), is added. Factors without data are left out and the rest are rescaled.

First-install notes

  • Make the settings file first Copy .env.example to .env and fill in the values Saleor expects, because this file holds important settings like database and security details. If you skip it, the app may start blank or fail to connect. source
  • Start the supporting services Run the Docker Compose command for db, dashboard, cache, and mailpit—these start the database, admin dashboard, cache, and a test email catcher. Without them, Saleor has nowhere to store data or send test emails. source
  • Create the admin account Run the populatedb command to load example data and create an administrator login. If you forget it, you may have no way to sign in to the dashboard or set up your store. source

Common questions

Where does the Saleor Docker Compose stack store data?

It uses the db service; without that service, Saleor has nowhere to store data.

How do I manage or extend a self-hosted Saleor backend?

Use the GraphQL API, since APIs are the only way to interact with, configure, or extend the backend.

What performance issue is reported when generating many thumbnails in a self-hosted instance?

A reported issue says the instance can freeze while generating a large number of thumbnails, such as when searching products to add to a collection. The load increases significantly during that operation.

Does Saleor's self-hosting documentation address cloud deployment?

The self-hosting overview says following the docs should make deploying Saleor in a Cloud environment straightforward. It also suggests contacting the Sales team for consultation or deployment help.
