First-install notes

  • Install Tailscale first Run the Linux Tailscale install script on the machine that will host tsidp. It installs the Tailscale client, and tsidp depends on it to work. source
  • Connect to your Tailscale network After installation, run tailscale up and sign in to your tailnet, which is Tailscale's private network. If you skip this, tsidp can't reach your devices or sign users in. source
  • Keep tailscaled running Enable and start the tailscaled background service, then check tailscale version to confirm it is installed. If this service stops, Tailscale disconnects and tsidp stops functioning. source
  • Enable MagicDNS and HTTPS for your tailnet tsidp requires a tailnet with MagicDNS and HTTPS enabled, plus a Tailscale authentication key and an Application capability grant; enable HTTPS certificates in the Tailscale admin console before running it. source
