First-install notes

  • Set up GitHub CLI first Install GitHub CLI (a command-line tool for GitHub) with brew install gh and then run gh auth login to sign in. Without that step, the widget may not be able to use GitHub features. source
  • Put the widget in the right folder Use the provided git clone command (git is the tool that downloads the widget code) so the files land in the Übersicht widgets folder. Keep the folder name and location unchanged, because if the widget is moved or renamed, Übersicht may not show it. source
  • Tune settings before first launch Before first launch, edit the default JSON settings (a structured plain-text settings file) if you want different themes, window managers, terminals, or widget behavior. If you skip this, the bar starts with defaults that may not fit your Mac setup. source

Common questions

Do I need to run a separate web client for Bar Assistant?

The repository only contains the API server. The README names Salt Rim as the web client to use with it.

How should I tag the Bar Assistant Docker image?

There is no latest tag, so you need to specify a version in the tag. You can use an exact version, minor version, major version, or the dev tag.

Why does the login page say 'Unable to connect to the API server'?

It usually means the client cannot reach the API server. The FAQ suggests restarting the API server and checking Docker.
