Health score?A 0-100 score computed nightly from four factors: maintained (40%: recent commits and steady activity), popular (25%: GitHub stars, log scale), easy to install (20%: platforms, install notes, setup guides, Docker image) and light to run (15%: minimum RAM, ARM support). When the source code has been checked, a fifth factor, security check (20%: automated scan for committed secrets, unsafe desktop-app settings, known-vulnerable dependencies and project hygiene; any serious finding caps it at 20), is added. Factors without data are left out and the rest are rescaled.

First-install notes

  • Install the Flatpak, then sign in Use the Flatpak command to install the downloaded file, and make sure Flatpak and the Freedesktop 24.08 runtime (the library environment the Flatpak needs) are installed first. After it starts, sign in again; if you had the old Fastpotify Flatpak, remove that one afterward so the two versions don't conflict. source
  • On Mac, install it with Homebrew Install Homebrew if it isn't already there, then run the given brew command to add the Spotifast cask (the macOS app package). This installs the app so you can open it normally and sign in. source
  • Arch: install the AUR package safely If you choose the Arch AUR spotifast-bin package, install it with yay and let it replace the old package when prompted. Don't delete your settings first, or you may have to start over. source

Common questions

Can Spotifast play music on a free Spotify account?

Playback requires Spotify Premium. Free accounts can browse and search but cannot play music.

How do I sign in and enable local playback?

Choose Sign in with Spotify and approve access in a browser. Then choose Set up playback here and complete the separate playback approval; your computer appears as a Spotify Connect device named Spotifast.

What should I check before installing the Flatpak version?

Make sure Flatpak and the Freedesktop 24.08 runtime are installed first. After starting the app, sign in again, and remove the old Fastpotify Flatpak if present so the versions do not conflict.

How do I update the Arch AUR package without losing settings?

Install spotifast-bin with yay and let it replace the old package when prompted. Do not delete your settings first, or you may have to start over.

Can Spotifast control playback on other devices?

Yes, Spotifast can play on the local computer or control playback on other devices. It supports Google Cast speakers and groups.
