  • Communication
  • Tools & Utilities
Rocket launch reminders on your phones and computers through ntfy. Sends an alert about 30 minutes before launches with a listed livestream, including a watch link. Follows delays and holds, retries failed notifications, and preserves reminder history across restarts. Set your own private ntfy topic and subscribe each device. Headless: configure this app in Unraid's container settings; no WebUI or published ports are required. Internet access and working device notification permissions are required. Launch times and push receipt can change.

Health score?A 0-100 score computed nightly from four factors: maintained (40%: recent commits and steady activity), popular (25%: GitHub stars, log scale), easy to install (20%: platforms, install notes, setup guides, Docker image) and light to run (15%: minimum RAM, ARM support). When the source code has been checked, a fifth factor, security check (20%: automated scan for committed secrets, unsafe desktop-app settings, known-vulnerable dependencies and project hygiene; any serious finding caps it at 20), is added. Factors without data are left out and the rest are rescaled.

Common questions

Do I need to publish ports or configure a reverse proxy for Launch-Alert?

No published ports or WebUI are required; the app runs headless and is configured through container settings. It still needs internet access to fetch launch data and deliver ntfy notifications.

Is it safe to use the generated public ntfy topic on every device?

An unreserved topic on public ntfy is accessible to anyone who knows its name, so keep the random topic and URL private. A random name is a shared secret, not an access policy. Use a permissioned ntfy server with a token if you need authenticated access.

How do I make Android notifications reliable when the phone is locked?

Enable notification permissions, sound, instant delivery, and background operation in the ntfy phone app. Verify delivery with a test notification while the phone is locked or idle. Also test focus modes and battery settings that match normal use.

What do I need to change for iOS notifications when using a self-hosted ntfy server?

The native iOS app uses Apple push delivery through the default public ntfy server. If you switch to a self-hosted ntfy server, configure that server's upstream-base-url for instant iOS notifications. Background polling alone can take hours.

Can I create the initial .env file on a host that does not have Python installed?

Yes, build the Docker image and run the init command in a temporary container bound to the repository directory. This creates .env with a random NTFY_TOPIC and preserves existing configuration. If copying the example manually, do not leave the example topic empty.

What state does Launch-Alert preserve across restarts?

It preserves reminder history across restarts. Existing .env configuration is also preserved when regenerating the initial configuration.
