Nocturne API is the backend service of Nocturne, a modern, high-performance diabetes management platform and complete rewrite of the Nightscout API built on .NET. It natively re-implements every Nightscout endpoint in C# and connects to data sources such as Dexcom, LibreLinkUp, Glooko, and MiniMed CareLink, serving real-time glucose readings, alerts, and statistics to companion apps and web front-ends. It suits self-hosters who want a fast, fully Nightscout-compatible glucose API with native connectors.

Health score?A 0-100 score computed nightly from four factors: maintained (40%: recent commits and steady activity), popular (25%: GitHub stars, log scale), easy to install (20%: platforms, install notes, setup guides, Docker image) and light to run (15%: minimum RAM, ARM support). When the source code has been checked, a fifth factor, security check (20%: automated scan for committed secrets, unsafe desktop-app settings, known-vulnerable dependencies and project hygiene; any serious finding caps it at 20), is added. Factors without data are left out and the rest are rescaled.

First-install notes

  • Install the Terbium Windows driver first Open PowerShell (the Windows command window) and run the Terbium driver install command from the guide before flashing the Car Thing. Without this driver, Windows cannot talk to the Car Thing, so custom firmware flashing will fail. source
  • Configure the Car Thing's network share Use the Windows PowerShell network commands to set your USB adapter to 172.16.42.1 and create a NAT (internet-sharing) connection for the Car Thing. Without this fixed address and internet sharing, the Car Thing will not get network access, and features that need the internet will fail. source
  • Let first-boot setup complete After flashing, let the first boot finish resetting user data and settings; it then clears a one-time firstboot flag so it does not run again. If this step is interrupted, the device may not finish setup or may re-run first-boot on later starts. source

Common questions

Can apps that currently talk to Nightscout be pointed at Nocturne?

Yes. Nocturne speaks the Nightscout v1, v2, and v3 APIs, so existing apps can keep working when their URL is changed to the Nocturne instance.

Can I use my own PostgreSQL database for Nocturne?

Yes, the documentation includes a Bring Your Own PostgreSQL installation path.

Can I put Nocturne behind my own reverse proxy?

Yes, the documentation includes Bring Your Own Reverse Proxy guidance.

What sign-in methods are documented for Nocturne?

The docs list passkeys with fallbacks, Google sign-in, GitHub sign-in, and generic OIDC sign-in.

Can one self-hosted Nocturne instance serve multiple people?

Yes. It is multitenant by default, so one deployment can serve multiple people while keeping each person's data and settings separate.
