First-install notes

  • Install the Windows USB driver Before flashing the Car Thing (the small device), install the Terbium driver because without it Windows cannot talk to it through the USB cable. If the driver is missing, flashing will fail or the device will not be recognized. source
  • Share your internet with the device On Windows, set the network adapter that appears when the Car Thing is plugged in to 172.16.42.1/24 and create a NAT (a rule that shares your computer's internet) called CarThing; otherwise the device cannot reach the internet. If Hyper-V blocks that adapter, enable the optional Hyper-V feature and reapply the address settings. source
  • Let first boot finish The first boot after flashing resets user data and settings to defaults, then clears the marker that starts first-time setup. Do not interrupt it, or setup may run again or leave the device half-initialized. source
