First-install notes
- Set up the Car Thing network On your computer, set the Car Thing's NDIS/USB network adapter to 172.16.42.1/24 and enable NAT (internet sharing for that adapter) for 172.16.42.0/24. Without this, the Car Thing has no internet path and setup can stop. source
- Install the Terbium driver first If you are flashing from Windows, install the Terbium driver using the PowerShell installer from driver.terbium.app before flashing. It is needed to put the Car Thing into flashing mode; missing it can make the flash fail. source
- First boot resets things to defaults The first boot automatically resets user data and system settings to defaults and then disables the first-boot flag. Let it finish without interfering; it keeps the new device from being confused by old data. source
- Run prepare.sh before first start Run prepare.sh first to generate credentials and bootstrap files, and install all four Nocturne templates on the Nocturne custom network. Database initialization runs only on an empty data directory; do not reuse a Nightscout MongoDB directory. source

Common questions
Will Aspire automatically start PostgreSQL for Nocturne?
Yes. Aspire can start PostgreSQL in a container and run database migrations automatically.
Does Nocturne support API_SECRET authentication?
Nocturne supports JWT-based authentication and API_SECRET support.
Do I need to expose the PostgreSQL port if Nocturne and the database run on the same home server?
If the app and PostgreSQL run on the same local machine, you do not need to expose PostgreSQL to Vercel or anyone else.
What backup responsibility applies when self-hosting Nocturne's PostgreSQL database?
You are responsible for backups, downtime, and patching. You should verify that you can restore from your backups.
