Muxarr bulk-strips unwanted audio and subtitle tracks from your media library by remuxing (no re-encode, no quality loss), with Sonarr/Radarr integration to keep each title's original language. Dropping spare audio tracks often reclaims 10-30% of a file, and a 4GB file still processes in about a minute even on a NAS. Under the hood it uses mkvmerge for Matroska and ffmpeg stream-copy for MP4-family containers, and validates the remuxed output before replacing the original, so a failed run leaves your source untouched. New imports can be auto-processed via webhook, and per-directory profiles let different folders (anime vs movies, say) follow different rules. It also applies language priority and per-language track limits, and cleans up encoder/codec junk in track metadata with mkvpropedit without a remux.

Health score?A 0-100 score computed nightly from four factors: maintained (40%: recent commits and steady activity), popular (25%: GitHub stars, log scale), easy to install (20%: platforms, install notes, setup guides, Docker image) and light to run (15%: minimum RAM, ARM support). When the source code has been checked, a fifth factor, security check (20%: automated scan for committed secrets, unsafe desktop-app settings, known-vulnerable dependencies and project hygiene; any serious finding caps it at 20), is added. Factors without data are left out and the rest are rescaled.

First-install notes

  • Install options Deploys as a Docker container (image ghcr.io/kirovair/muxarr:latest) or, since no prebuilt binaries exist, built from source on Debian/Ubuntu for a Proxmox LXC, VM or bare NAS; requires mkvtoolnix and ffmpeg. source

Common questions

Does Muxarr re-encode video or audio when cleaning tracks?

No, Muxarr copies the video and audio unchanged and leaves out only the selected tracks.

What happens if validation fails while remuxing a file?

Muxarr validates the output file before replacing the original, so a failed run leaves the source untouched.

Can Muxarr process Sonarr and Radarr imports automatically?

Yes, it supports webhooks to process new imports as they arrive, with a configurable delay so tools like Bazarr can finish first.

Which media container types does Muxarr support?

It supports Matroska files such as .mkv and .webm, plus MP4-family files such as .mp4 and .m4v.

Can different folders follow different language and track rules?

Yes, per-directory profiles let different folders, such as anime versus western media, follow different language and track rules.

What notification services can Muxarr use?

It supports Apprise, Discord, Gotify, Ntfy, Pushover, Slack, and Telegram, plus library rescans for Plex and Emby.
