Health score?A 0-100 score computed nightly from four factors: maintained (40%: recent commits and steady activity), popular (25%: GitHub stars, log scale), easy to install (20%: platforms, install notes, setup guides, Docker image) and light to run (15%: minimum RAM, ARM support). When the source code has been checked, a fifth factor, security check (20%: automated scan for committed secrets, unsafe desktop-app settings, known-vulnerable dependencies and project hygiene; any serious finding caps it at 20), is added. Factors without data are left out and the rest are rescaled.

First-install notes

  • Set up MoneyForward OAuth before using it Register an app in MoneyForward and enter its client_id (app ID), client_secret (app password), redirect_uri (where approval sends you), and scopes (permissions you're asking for) so expense-pilot can ask for permission and get a token. Without these, the app can't sign in or access your expense data. source
  • Use the right MoneyForward website/domain Pick expense.moneyforward.com for expense reports and payable.moneyforward.com for payables/debt payment features, and keep that choice consistent for login, token, and data requests. Using the wrong domain means you're talking to a different service and your data won't connect. source
  • Keep your access token fresh and safe Access tokens are temporary: check the remaining time with the token info endpoint, and replace or revoke a token if it is invalid, expired, or no longer needed. If you don't, the app stops connecting after it expires, and a leaked token can let someone use your account. source
  • Initial setup Prepare the appdata folder described in the installation guide, create your owner account on a trusted network before enabling remote access, and note that the setup token is optional. source
  • Stable Docker release Run the stable Docker release; the optional iPhone app remains in testing and is not required. source
  • Beta data volume Run beta separately with its own data volume. source

Common questions

Which Docker tag should I run for the stable release?

Use the stable image tag latest or 1.0.5 for the current stable release. Use the template and instructions from the same branch as your image.

Is a setup token required for installation?

No, the setup token is optional. AI is configured inside the app, and public installations do not require a GitHub account or registry login.

Where are Expense Pilot records stored?

Records live in the Docker data volume. There is no required Expense Pilot cloud account or central relay, and optional AI, bank feeds, and email use services you configure.

Can I use Expense Pilot without AI receipt reading?

Yes, you can use it without enabling receipt AI. Any configured AI service is controlled through the app settings.

How do I bring in bank transactions?

You can import bank CSVs or connect your own PocketSmith account, then review and match transactions.

Is the iPhone app required?

No, the optional iPhone app remains in testing and is not required to use Expense Pilot.
