PanaControl is a browser-based remote control and live view for Panasonic LUMIX cameras, using the native cam.cgi protocol to drive autofocus, start and stop video recording, adjust ISO, and read the current aperture. Developed and verified against a DC-GH6 (firmware 3.01) and packaged as a LinuxServer.io-Alpine container, it lets homelab users operate a LUMIX camera from a self-hosted web page instead of the vendor apps.

Health score?A 0-100 score computed nightly from four factors: maintained (40%: recent commits and steady activity), popular (25%: GitHub stars, log scale), easy to install (20%: platforms, install notes, setup guides, Docker image) and light to run (15%: minimum RAM, ARM support). When the source code has been checked, a fifth factor, security check (20%: automated scan for committed secrets, unsafe desktop-app settings, known-vulnerable dependencies and project hygiene; any serious finding caps it at 20), is added. Factors without data are left out and the rest are rescaled.

First-install notes

  • Use host networking (or a fixed LAN IP) for live view Run the container with host networking, or give it a fixed IP on network br0, so the camera and container sit on the same subnet. The camera sends the live view by UDP back to the exact address the request came from, so a router or separate VLAN between them means the controls work but no picture arrives. Avoid bridge networking with port mapping: each ~23 KB live-view frame is one UDP datagram sp source
  • No built-in login The web interface on port 8080 has no authentication; whoever can reach the container can control the camera. For access from outside the LAN, put a reverse proxy with authentication in front. source
  • Stop the container cleanly Always stop the container in order (Ctrl+C, docker stop, or Unraid's Stop) so the app sends stopstream. Killing the process hard leaves the camera's remote session occupied, and the camera then answers every command with err_busy until it is switched off and on again. source
  • LinuxServer.io image conventions The container is built on linuxserver.io's Alpine image and follows its environment-variable conventions: PUID, PGID, UMASK, and TZ. source

Common questions

What network setup should I use for PanaControl in Docker?

Give the container its own address on the LAN using macvlan/ipvlan, or use host networking. Docker's NAT can drop live view frames, so bridge with port mapping is not preferred.

What camera Wi-Fi function setting is required before PanaControl can connect?

Set the camera to [Wi-Fi] -> [Wi-Fi Function] -> [Control With Smartphone] and put it in the waiting state. Then switch to the Wi-Fi connection with the DISP. button and select [Via Network].

How should PanaControl be stopped to keep the camera usable?

Stop it in order with Ctrl+C, docker stop, or Unraid's Stop so the app sends stopstream. A hard kill leaves the camera's remote session occupied and can cause err_busy until the camera is switched off and on again.

Which environment variable sets the camera address?

Use LUMIX_CAMERA_IP to provide the camera's address to the container.

Which port is used for the PanaControl web interface?

The web interface is on port 8080. If using Docker port mapping, publish 8080 to 8080.
