Legejo is a self-hosted library for your EPUB books. Read in the browser, sync books, reading positions and highlights with a Kobo, use any OPDS reading app, and keep KOReader in step. Share shelves with other users, listen to audiobooks, and federate shelves of free books over ActivityPub so they can be followed from Mastodon or another Legejo. PDF and comics (CBZ) are kept too. Everything, the SQLite database included, lives in the appdata folder. Sign in with the admin user and password below; when the password is left empty, one is generated and printed once in the container log.

Health score?A 0-100 score computed nightly from four factors: maintained (40%: recent commits and steady activity), popular (25%: GitHub stars, log scale), easy to install (20%: platforms, install notes, setup guides, Docker image) and light to run (15%: minimum RAM, ARM support). When the source code has been checked, a fifth factor, security check (20%: automated scan for committed secrets, unsafe desktop-app settings, known-vulnerable dependencies and project hygiene; any serious finding caps it at 20), is added. Factors without data are left out and the rest are rescaled.

Common questions

Where should I look to back up a Legejo instance?

Everything, including the SQLite database, lives in the appdata folder. Backing up that folder preserves the database and the rest of the instance data.

How do I find the admin password after first start?

If you leave the admin password empty, Legejo generates one and prints it once in the container log. Use that generated password to sign in as the admin user.

Can I run Legejo with PostgreSQL instead of the default database?

Legejo runs as a single container with either SQLite or PostgreSQL. SQLite is built in and needs no configuration, while PostgreSQL is available if you want it.

How do I listen to audiobooks from Legejo?

Each audiobook can be exposed as a private podcast feed. You can listen in Apple Podcasts, Pocket Casts, Overcast, or another podcast app, which keeps your listening position.

Can I share one shelf without giving full account access?

You can give one shelf to another Legejo user or a reading app by a private link. The feature is optional, must be turned on by an admin, and the link can be taken back.
