Bay Watch is a standalone Unraid application that maps your physical drive bays, hot-swap trays, and PCIe NVMe carriers to a visual tray map, so you can see which drive sits where at a glance. It tracks each drive's array or pool role, capacity, manufacturer branding, and SMART (Self-Monitoring, Analysis and Reporting Technology) health history over time. Formerly known as Disk Location Next, it is an independent project not affiliated with the Disk Location plugin, and it runs natively on Unraid 7.2+ through the unraid-api instead of as a classic webGUI plugin.

Health score?A 0-100 score computed nightly from four factors: maintained (40%: recent commits and steady activity), popular (25%: GitHub stars, log scale), easy to install (20%: platforms, install notes, setup guides, Docker image) and light to run (15%: minimum RAM, ARM support). When the source code has been checked, a fifth factor, security check (20%: automated scan for committed secrets, unsafe desktop-app settings, known-vulnerable dependencies and project hygiene; any serious finding caps it at 20), is added. Factors without data are left out and the rest are rescaled.

Common questions

Is Bay Watch a classic Unraid PHP webGUI plugin?

No. It is a standalone TypeScript/Node.js service that talks to Unraid's native unraid-api GraphQL interface and Unraid's own runtime state files.

What happens to my configuration if I already installed Disk Location Next?

Installing Bay Watch carries over your Unraid API settings, chassis layout, logos, and SMART history. It then removes the old plugin.

How can I physically identify which drive is in which bay?

The Locate button blinks the real drive's activity LED using repeated smartctl queries. It works on both unassigned and already assigned drives.

Can I customize the visual representation of trays and PCIe carriers?

Yes. Tray skins and PCIe carrier shells are plain SVGs you can add to without touching code.

Does Bay Watch track drive health over time?

Yes. It shows a per-drive SMART-status LED and keeps SMART health history over time.
