Remember which groceries to buy again and which not, with a reason, 1 to 5 stars, the store, the date, a photo and optionally the price paid. Scan the barcode with the phone camera; product names and pictures come from Open Food Facts. Every entry keeps the time it was made and last changed. After the first start, create a user in the container's console: buybutler user add NAME. The camera in the browser needs HTTPS: open it through a reverse proxy with a certificate. The appdata folder holds the database and all photos; back it up.

Common questions

How do I create the first user?

After the first start, create a user in the container console with buybutler user add NAME. You can run it with docker exec -it buybutler buybutler user add NAME.

Do I need a reverse proxy for the browser camera?

Yes, the browser camera requires HTTPS. Serve the app through a reverse proxy with a certificate.

What data should I back up?

Back up the /config folder because it holds the database and every photo. Do not delete it.

Does it work when shop reception is poor?

The app stays usable without a connection, and the rated products on the current list are kept on the phone. Unsent ratings, products, and prices are stored on the phone and sent when the connection returns. Repeated requests do not create duplicate entries.

Does it support passkey or two-factor login?

Each user can optionally enable two-factor login with an authenticator app code or a passkey using fingerprint or face unlock. One-time recovery codes are provided for a lost phone.

Can I scan many barcodes after a shopping trip?

Use Add many on the Scan view to scan one barcode after another; confirm each with OK while Open Food Facts is requested in the background. The products are saved unrated so you can rate them later.
