FigCraft is an open-source, collaborative interface design and prototyping app in the spirit of Figma, written in pure Rust. It offers frames, auto layout, components and variants, vector networks, styles, variables and prototypes in a native app for macOS, Windows and Linux that opens instantly and works offline, with no account, telemetry or subscription. You can use the official native releases directly, or self-host the real Linux build on a Selkies web desktop that streams it to your browser without a VNC client or local install (amd64 and arm64), with settings, recent files and workspaces persisting under /config. A good fit for designers and teams who want a Figma-like tool they can run locally or on their own server.

Health score?A 0-100 score computed nightly from four factors: maintained (40%: recent commits and steady activity), popular (25%: GitHub stars, log scale), easy to install (20%: platforms, install notes, setup guides, Docker image) and light to run (15%: minimum RAM, ARM support). When the source code has been checked, a fifth factor, security check (20%: automated scan for committed secrets, unsafe desktop-app settings, known-vulnerable dependencies and project hygiene; any serious finding caps it at 20), is added. Factors without data are left out and the rest are rescaled.

First-install notes

  • Install from the release archive on Ubuntu Run the release install script on a fresh Ubuntu server with SSH access, using the host name, email, and terms URL it asks for. It expects a domain name pointing to that server — a DNS record, the lookup entry for the name — or people won’t be able to reach the app by that name. source
  • Keep control port 7979 trusted If you start the control server, Figcraft listens on TCP port 7979. Keep that port available only to trusted machines because it can send commands to the server. source
  • Self-hosted first run (Selkies web desktop) Open the WebUI over HTTPS on port 3001 and accept the self-signed certificate once — the Selkies client needs a secure connection; port 3000 (HTTP) is for a reverse proxy that terminates TLS. Leave WebUI Username and Password empty to run without a login, or set both to enable HTTP basic auth. source
  • Where your files live FigCraft's files live under /storage (default /mnt/user, all shares), which is where FigCraft's open and save dialogs should point. source

Common questions

Can FigCraft open .fig files, and what can it export?

It can open .fig files on a best-effort basis, and it can also open designs exported as the public REST API file JSON with prototypes and variables. Exports include SVG, PNG, JPG, WebP, and PDF.

Are FigCraft design files stored in a portable format that I can back up?

FigCraft files are plain .figcraft archives on your own disk. There is no account or telemetry, and nothing leaves the computer unless you share a file.

Can browser-only users publish a new document to a self-hosted figcraft-server?

The browser can join and edit files hosted on a server, but publishing a new document still requires the desktop app or MCP.

What should I check if the FigCraft web editor will not load or shows a blank canvas?

The troubleshooting guide covers the web editor not loading, a blank canvas, WebGPU and WebGL2 errors, installation, and opening or saving files.

Can multiple users edit the same server-hosted FigCraft file at the same time?

FigCraft supports live sessions on one figcraft-server file, with cursors, selections, cursor chat, and spotlight.

Does FigCraft require a paid subscription?

FigCraft has no account, no telemetry, and no subscription.
