VectorCraft is an open-source, Rust-built vector illustration application by the ArtCraft team, streamed to your browser via a Selkies web desktop on Unraid. It handles SVG and PDF import and export and runs the native Linux build for smooth drawing and zooming on both amd64 and arm64. For homelab users who want a full-featured vector editor in the browser without a local install or VNC client.

Health score?A 0-100 score computed nightly from four factors: maintained (40%: recent commits and steady activity), popular (25%: GitHub stars, log scale), easy to install (20%: platforms, install notes, setup guides, Docker image) and light to run (15%: minimum RAM, ARM support). When the source code has been checked, a fifth factor, security check (20%: automated scan for committed secrets, unsafe desktop-app settings, known-vulnerable dependencies and project hygiene; any serious finding caps it at 20), is added. Factors without data are left out and the rest are rescaled.

First-install notes

  • Save a .vectorcraft copy first Make a save-as copy of your work before trying big edits or plug-ins, so you have a clean file to restore if something goes wrong. source
  • Install plug-ins with a file path On desktop, give VectorCraft the file path to a WebAssembly plug-in file (a small add-on file); it checks the plug-in before installing, which helps catch broken files early. source
  • Plug-in errors won't ruin your file If a plug-in command fails, VectorCraft reports the error and leaves the document unchanged, so you can fix the plug-in or settings and try again without losing your design. source
  • Access WebUI over HTTPS on port 3001 Open the WebUI over HTTPS on port 3001 and accept the self-signed certificate once. The Selkies client needs a secure connection; port 3000 (HTTP) is meant for a reverse proxy that terminates TLS. source
  • File storage and workspace paths Files and workspaces live under /storage (default /mnt/user, all shares), which is where VectorCraft's open and save dialogs should point. Settings and recent files persist under /config. source

Common questions

Does self-hosting VectorCraft require a hosted copy?

No hosted copy was found. Releases include native builds and a self-hostable WebAssembly build.

What VectorCraft document format is open for backup or migration?

The native format is .vectorcraft, a documented JSON format. It also supports first-class SVG, PDF, and PDF-compatible .ai import and export.

Can VectorCraft be driven programmatically?

Yes. Its menu items, tool gestures, panels, and dialogs can be driven over a JSON control channel and an MCP server.

What rendering performance is documented for large drawings?

VectorCraft uses multithreaded SIMD rendering off the UI thread. It reports 20,000 shapes rendering in about 27 ms at full retina resolution while the interface stays at 120 fps.
