Health score?A 0-100 score computed nightly from four factors: maintained (40%: recent commits and steady activity), popular (25%: GitHub stars, log scale), easy to install (20%: platforms, install notes, setup guides, Docker image) and light to run (15%: minimum RAM, ARM support). When the source code has been checked, a fifth factor, security check (20%: automated scan for committed secrets, unsafe desktop-app settings, known-vulnerable dependencies and project hygiene; any serious finding caps it at 20), is added. Factors without data are left out and the rest are rescaled.

First-install notes

  • Start ZFS at boot in the right order Run the init-script commands for zfs-import, zfs-load-key, and zfs-mount before other services start. The order matters because ZFS must read, unlock, and mount your pools early, or dependent services may start before your files exist. source
  • Mount your ZFS root dataset at / If this machine is booting from ZFS, set your main dataset (a storage area inside a ZFS pool) mountpoint to / using zfs set mountpoint=/ pool/dataset. This tells the system where to find its core files; without it, the root filesystem may not mount correctly. source
  • Find ZFS pools after install After installing the plugin, open the Main/ZFSMaster tab to see the available ZFS pools. source

Common questions

Where are available ZFS pools listed in ZFS Master?

They appear under the Main/ZFSMaster tab, where the plugin shows pool information and controls.

What ZFS boot tasks must run before other services on Linux?

Run the zfs-import, zfs-load-key, and zfs-mount init-script commands before other services start, because pools must be read, unlocked, and mounted before dependent services need the files.

Which ZFS features should I consider for pool health and data handling?

Checksums, scrubbing, snapshots, and compression are listed as notable ZFS features to consider.

What pitfalls should I avoid when setting up ZFS pools?

Avoid the common one-time ZFS mistakes and the other pitfalls that occur during pool setup.
