First-install notes

  • Have your Pi-hole address and password Put your Pi-hole web address (like https://pi.hole/) and admin password into the client. Without both, the app cannot talk to Pi-hole and every command will fail. source
  • Use the normal pip install Run pip install pihole6api instead of cloning the code, because that installs the finished package for daily use. The source/editable steps are for developers and can add avoidable setup problems. source
  • Close the client when finished Call client.close_session() when your script is done. This releases the open connection to Pi-hole, which can otherwise stay open and waste resources. source
