Health score?A 0-100 score computed nightly from four factors: maintained (40%: recent commits and steady activity), popular (25%: GitHub stars, log scale), easy to install (20%: platforms, install notes, setup guides, Docker image) and light to run (15%: minimum RAM, ARM support). When the source code has been checked, a fifth factor, security check (20%: automated scan for committed secrets, unsafe desktop-app settings, known-vulnerable dependencies and project hygiene; any serious finding caps it at 20), is added. Factors without data are left out and the rest are rescaled.

First-install notes
- Check your Kubernetes cluster first Before installing Portabase, run kubectl get nodes to confirm your Kubernetes cluster is reachable; kubectl is the command-line tool used to talk to a Kubernetes setup. If no nodes show up, the Helm install cannot reach the cluster and will not work. source
- Give the Helm install a random secret When installing the Portabase Helm chart, include a project secret made with a command like project.secret=$(openssl rand -hex 32), which creates a long random password. Without a proper secret, you may end up with a missing or weak credential that can block access or leave the deployment insecure. source
- Verify pods and services after install After the Helm install, check the running app instances with kubectl get pods and the network entry points with kubectl get svc. If pods keep restarting or no service appears, Portabase is not fully running and you may not be able to open its page or API. source

Common questions
Where does Portabase store backup metadata?
Portabase requires a PostgreSQL database for its own metadata. It uses that database to store storage location, status, scheduling, notifications, and system information.
Do I need to open inbound ports on servers that host my databases?
No, the agents deployed near the databases periodically contact the central server. The central server does not contact agents directly, so no inbound ports are needed into the database environments.
What should I include when installing Portabase with Helm?
Provide a random project secret, for example generated with openssl rand -hex 32. After installation, verify the pods and services to confirm the app is running.
Can Portabase back up Docker volumes?
Yes, Docker volumes are described as first-class backup targets alongside PostgreSQL and MySQL.
Can Portabase use an external identity provider for authentication?
Yes, it supports OIDC and OAuth2 connectors for authenticating to your instance using external identity providers.
