AutoExtract is a Docker container, commonly run on Unraid, that scans a folder on a schedule and automatically extracts zip, rar, 7z and tar archives (including .tar.gz, .tgz, .tar.bz2 and .tar.xz, and nested archives, any number of levels deep) into the folder they are in. It handles multi-part sets such as .part1.rar, .r00, .z01 and .7z.001, and cleans up the processed archives and junk files like *.diz by deleting them, moving them to the Recycle Bin, or moving them to a trash folder, optionally setting permissions and ownership on everything it processed. It works one folder at a time with parallel extraction inside a folder, a live status page, and a settings page for every option. It was created entirely by AI (Claude) and, although tested, has not been verified in every situation, so do your own due diligence before relying on it with data you cannot replace or exposing it to the internet.

Health score?A 0-100 score computed nightly from four factors: maintained (40%: recent commits and steady activity), popular (25%: GitHub stars, log scale), easy to install (20%: platforms, install notes, setup guides, Docker image) and light to run (15%: minimum RAM, ARM support). When the source code has been checked, a fifth factor, security check (20%: automated scan for committed secrets, unsafe desktop-app settings, known-vulnerable dependencies and project hygiene; any serious finding caps it at 20), is added. Factors without data are left out and the rest are rescaled.

First-install notes

  • Install and first run Run AutoExtract as a Docker container. On Unraid, install it from the Unraid Community Applications page; on any other Docker host, add it using the container's Docker template. In the settings page, choose the folder to scan, the scan schedule, and how processed archives and junk files are handled (keep in place, delete, move to the Recycle Bin, or move to a trash folder). source
