PdfCraft Web is a community-maintained Docker image that serves PdfCraft, a browser-based PDF reader and editor. The upstream application includes PDF viewing and rendering, page organization, annotations, interactive forms, and document editing workflows. The WebAssembly application runs in the browser; the container only serves its static files through NGINX and does not provide server-side PDF processing or centralized document storage.

Health score?A 0-100 score computed nightly from four factors: maintained (40%: recent commits and steady activity), popular (25%: GitHub stars, log scale), easy to install (20%: platforms, install notes, setup guides, Docker image) and light to run (15%: minimum RAM, ARM support). When the source code has been checked, a fifth factor, security check (20%: automated scan for committed secrets, unsafe desktop-app settings, known-vulnerable dependencies and project hygiene; any serious finding caps it at 20), is added. Factors without data are left out and the rest are rescaled.

First-install notes

  • Keep the CLI control token private If you want pdfcraft-cli to click, type, or take screenshots, start the app with pdfcraft --control /tmp/pc.json and treat that JSON file like a password, because the CLI needs its random token to send commands. If you skip the --control flag, the control endpoint is off, which avoids giving local users an extra way to drive the app. source

Common questions

Do users of a self-hosted PdfCraft Web UI need accounts or telemetry?

No, the project describes PdfCraft as having no account and no cloud. It also says it has no telemetry and works offline.

How are PDF edits saved when using the app?

Every save appends changes and leaves the original bytes untouched. Writes are atomic, and the source says nothing is lost if you close by mistake.

Can PdfCraft open encrypted PDF files?

Yes. It reports support for RC4 through AES-256 encryption and honors author permissions.

Can a self-hoster use PdfCraft to assemble or split documents without losing features?

Yes. It can combine, extract, and split documents while keeping links, form fields, layers, and bookmarks intact.

What branding restrictions apply to modified self-hosted copies?

The ArtCraft name and logos are trademarks and not open source. Forks and modified versions must remove them.
