How is this calculated?

A 0-100 score computed nightly from four factors: maintained (40%: recent commits and steady activity), popular (25%: GitHub stars, log scale), easy to install (20%: platforms, install notes, setup guides, Docker image) and light to run (15%: minimum RAM, ARM support). Factors without data are left out and the rest are rescaled.

First-install notes

  • Use Docker Compose with port 34400 Use the Docker Compose example and keep port 34400 open, because it is Threadfin's main web and live-TV port. Set PUID/PGID (the user and group IDs the container runs as) to match your folders, or Threadfin may fail to save settings and your media server may not be able to reach it. source
  • Save the config folder Mount ./data/conf inside the container so your channel lineup and guide settings are kept on your host. If that folder is deleted or not saved, Threadfin will lose everything you configured. source
  • Add Threadfin to Emby or Jellyfin In Emby or Jellyfin, add Threadfin as an HDHomeRun tuner at http://YOUR_THREADFIN_IP:34400 and set the XMLTV guide to http://YOUR_THREADFIN_IP:34400/xmltv/threadfin.xml. Replace YOUR_THREADFIN_IP with Threadfin's IP address, or your media server will not find live TV channels or the program guide. source

Common questions

Which port should I expose for Threadfin, and what endpoints do I use in Emby or Jellyfin?

Expose port 34400 and add Threadfin as an HDHomeRun tuner at the Threadfin IP on port 34400. Use the XMLTV guide at /xmltv/threadfin.xml on the same host.

Why do some people enable FFmpeg in Threadfin?

Some users enable FFmpeg to avoid audio/video sync problems and streams that are not properly formatted when using direct passthrough.

Why does Threadfin hang while I filter a large channel list?

A very large channel list can make the Threadfin Docker container hang during filtering.

Can Threadfin serve multiple Plex instances?

Yes, it can be used as an IPTV proxy for multiple Plex instances, with one active instance pulling the feed and using RAM disk transcoding.

Why might Threadfin show a red status after a Plex DVR stream stops?

After a first live stream works, Threadfin can show a red status indefinitely and report multiple streams recording even with nothing playing.
