A lightweight configurable tool that allows you to easily create HTTP endpoints (hooks) on your server, which you can use to execute configured commands. You can also pass data from the HTTP request (such as headers, payload or query variables) to your commands. webhook also allows you to specify rules which have to be satisfied in order for the hook to be triggered.

Health score?A 0-100 score computed nightly from four factors: maintained (40%: recent commits and steady activity), popular (25%: GitHub stars, log scale), easy to install (20%: platforms, install notes, setup guides, Docker image) and light to run (15%: minimum RAM, ARM support). When the source code has been checked, a fifth factor, security check (20%: automated scan for committed secrets, unsafe desktop-app settings, known-vulnerable dependencies and project hygiene; any serious finding caps it at 20), is added. Factors without data are left out and the rest are rescaled.

First-install notes

  • Answer Facebook's verification test When you add your webhook URL (the address Facebook posts to), Facebook sends a one-time test with a secret verify token and a challenge number. Your webhook URL must automatically send back that challenge number, or Facebook will not accept the setup and no notifications will arrive. source
  • Install your app on the Page Before alerts can arrive, your app must be installed on the Facebook Page and subscribed to the fields you want, such as feed or leadgen. Use a Page access token (a key that proves you manage the Page) with the right permission, or Facebook will block the install. source
  • Check that the Page sees your app After installing, check the Page's installed-app list to confirm your app is shown. If it is missing, the subscription did not take effect and the Page will not send updates. source

Common questions

Which file format can I use to define Webhook hooks?

You can use JSON or YAML configuration files. A hooks.json file contains an array of the hooks Webhook serves.

How do I pass request data to the command that Webhook runs?

Webhook parses headers, payload, and query variables and can pass the specified arguments to the command via command line arguments or environment variables.

How can I require conditions before a hook triggers?

You can specify rules in the configuration, and the hook runs only when those rules are satisfied.

Can I install Webhook without building from source?

Yes, prebuilt binaries are available for different architectures. You can also install it from Snap or package managers for Ubuntu, Debian, and FreeBSD.
