First-install notes

  • Install Tile38 on macOS with Homebrew If you're on macOS, use Homebrew to install Tile38, then run tile38-server to start it. Without a running server, your apps and commands have nowhere to send data. source
  • Start the Tile38 server Run tile38-server so the service is active on your computer. If the server is not started, every command and client connection will fail. source
  • Connect with the local Tile38 port Point your client to 127.0.0.1:9851, the local Tile38 port shown in the example. If you use the wrong address or port, the client will not be able to reach the server. source

Common questions

What do I need to do after installing Tile38 before client connections work?

Start the server with tile38-server. If the server is not started, every command and client connection will fail.

What local address and port should my application use to connect to Tile38?

Point your client to 127.0.0.1:9851. If you use the wrong address or port, the client will not be able to reach the server.

How can I expose Tile38 metrics for Prometheus?

Set the --metrics-addr command line flag, which is disabled by default. For example, start the server with a local metrics address and scrape the /metrics endpoint. Set the flag to 0.0.0.0 plus a port if another host must access the endpoint.

Can Tile38 send geofence events to external systems?

Yes, Tile38 can deliver geospatial event notifications by pairing with external webhooks and event queues.
