Minisatip is a lightweight, multi-threaded SAT-IP server for Linux that exposes DVB-S/S2, DVB-T/T2, DVB-C, ATSC, and ISDB-T tuner cards to network clients such as Tvheadend, DVBViewer, VDR, and VideoLAN. Designed for embedded systems, it needs no additional libraries for basic functionality and can also act as a SAT-IP client to reach remote tuners.

Health score?A 0-100 score computed nightly from four factors: maintained (40%: recent commits and steady activity), popular (25%: GitHub stars, log scale), easy to install (20%: platforms, install notes, setup guides, Docker image) and light to run (15%: minimum RAM, ARM support). When the source code has been checked, a fifth factor, security check (20%: automated scan for committed secrets, unsafe desktop-app settings, known-vulnerable dependencies and project hygiene; any serious finding caps it at 20), is added. Factors without data are left out and the rest are rescaled.

First-install notes

  • Auto-detect or simulate tuner hardware Run minisatip with -a 0 to let it find your real tuner cards automatically, or use -a 1:2:3 to fake 1 satellite, 2 terrestrial, and 3 cable tuners when testing without hardware. Without a matching setting, you may not see the tuners you expect. source
  • Enable only the adapters you have Use -e with the tuner card numbers you actually want, such as -e 0-2,5,7. This stops minisatip from including missing or unused cards, which can leave empty slots and make the first UI check confusing. source
  • Fix SAT-IP VLAN interface names For SAT-IP (network TV streams) over VLANs, set mcproxy's upstream and downstream to your real interface names, not the example eth0.20 and br-lan. If they are wrong, group TV signals cannot reach the right network segments and clients may show no channels. source

Common questions

Can minisatip serve multiple clients from one DVB card?

Yes. It is designed to stream requested data to multiple clients at the same time using one DVB card while opening different PIDs.

Can minisatip connect to SATIP servers on other networks?

Yes. Minisatip can act as a SATIP client to connect to SATIP servers from different networks.

What did one minisatip user report seeing with an “Insufficient bandwidth” log message?

They reported freezes accompanied by a log entry containing a socket overflow byte count. The user asked for a workaround to increase bandwidth.

What did one user observe when using two tuners and two transponders with minisatip?

They could watch streams on two transponders with their two tuners, but only individual channels or channel groups had problems.
