First-install notes

  • Install Czkawka GUI on Windows with MSYS2 On Windows, open MSYS2 (a terminal environment) and run pacman -S mingw-w64-x86_64-czkawka-gui. This installs the GUI executable to C:\msys64\mingw64\bin\czkawka_gui.exe, so you can start the program after installation. source
  • Linux: add media and image libraries On Ubuntu/Debian, install ffmpeg with sudo apt install ffmpeg if you plan to use the similar videos tool. You can also run sudo apt install libheif-dev libraw-dev libavif-dev libdav1d-dev to support extra image formats; without these, those tools or file types may not work. source
  • Preview duplicates before deleting in CLI Before deleting duplicates, run czkawka_cli dup -d /path/to/folder -D AEN -Q to preview which files would be kept and removed. This dry run (a safe preview) helps you avoid accidentally deleting files you wanted to keep. source
