Minecraft Basic Server is a lightweight Docker container that downloads and runs a Minecraft: Java Edition server, with a vanilla setup by default. You can swap in your own server file (Bukkit, Spigot, Paper, or Feed the Beast), pin a game version, or enable automatic update checks on restart, making it a simple way to host a Minecraft server in Docker, especially on Unraid.

How is this calculated?

A 0-100 score computed nightly from four factors: maintained (40%: recent commits and steady activity), popular (25%: GitHub stars, log scale), easy to install (20%: platforms, install notes, setup guides, Docker image) and light to run (15%: minimum RAM, ARM support). Factors without data are left out and the rest are rescaled.

First-install notes

  • First run and custom server files On first start, let the container finish downloading the vanilla server, then stop it. To run a custom server (e.g. Spigot or Paper), copy the server file in and set the Serverfile variable to its name. Accept the EULA in the container settings; if GAME_V is set to latest, the container checks for new versions on every restart and JAR_NAME must be server. source
