Health score?A 0-100 score computed nightly from four factors: maintained (40%: recent commits and steady activity), popular (25%: GitHub stars, log scale), easy to install (20%: platforms, install notes, setup guides, Docker image) and light to run (15%: minimum RAM, ARM support). When the source code has been checked, a fifth factor, security check (20%: automated scan for committed secrets, unsafe desktop-app settings, known-vulnerable dependencies and project hygiene; any serious finding caps it at 20), is added. Factors without data are left out and the rest are rescaled.

First-install notes

  • Set encryption key and data folders Generate an ENCRYPTION_KEY and point your local ./data and ./uploads folders into the container before starting. This keeps your trips and uploads on your machine and protects stored settings; without it, data can be lost or unreadable. source
  • Open port 3000 to reach TREK Map port 3000 to your local machine so the web app opens in a browser. Without it, TREK can start but you cannot log in or use it. source
  • Set or capture the first admin password On first boot, TREK creates an admin account. Set ADMIN_EMAIL and ADMIN_PASSWORD before starting to choose it, or copy the printed log credentials because they are the only way in. source

Common questions

What should I do if I did not set the admin email and password before the first start?

TREK creates an admin account on first boot and prints the credentials in the log. If you did not set ADMIN_EMAIL and ADMIN_PASSWORD in advance, those log credentials are the only way in.

Which data folders and key should I configure before starting TREK?

Set ENCRYPTION_KEY and point your local ./data and ./uploads folders into the container. This keeps trips and uploads on your machine and protects stored settings; without it, data can be lost or unreadable.

Which port should I open for the web app?

Map port 3000 to your local machine so the browser can open TREK. Without that mapping, TREK may start but you cannot log in or use it.

Can I use maps and place search without API keys?

Yes, MapLibre GL can use OpenFreeMap without a token, and place search can use OpenStreetMap without a key. 3D buildings and terrain are only available with Mapbox.

Can I import flight or hotel confirmations from files?

Yes, TREK can import EML, PDF, PKPass, HTML, and TXT confirmations through KItinerary. The Docker image includes the required kitinerary-extractor binary.

Can I export trip maps or calendar data?

Yes, you can export GPX for a trip's places and tracks. You can also export an ICS feed for one trip or across all trips.
