Health score?A 0-100 score computed nightly from four factors: maintained (40%: recent commits and steady activity), popular (25%: GitHub stars, log scale), easy to install (20%: platforms, install notes, setup guides, Docker image) and light to run (15%: minimum RAM, ARM support). When the source code has been checked, a fifth factor, security check (20%: automated scan for committed secrets, unsafe desktop-app settings, known-vulnerable dependencies and project hygiene; any serious finding caps it at 20), is added. Factors without data are left out and the rest are rescaled.

First-install notes

  • Turn on login before first start Set authentication, such as ENABLE_LOGIN=true with USERNAME and PASSWORD or an OIDC/SSO setup, before exposing the web page. This stops anyone on your network from opening GPTWOL and sending wake requests to your devices. source
  • Let Docker send wake packets locally In Docker, use host networking so the app shares your computer's normal network connection; if you enable Layer 2 wake packets, also set L2_INTERFACE to your LAN interface such as eth0. Wake-on-LAN magic packets need to reach the whole local network, so without this your devices may not wake. source
  • Add each computer’s details Once the app is running, register each computer with its name, MAC address (the unique network ID), IP address, and check method like icmp, arp, or a TCP port. GPTWOL uses these details to know which device to check and wake. source
