Health score?A 0-100 score computed nightly from four factors: maintained (40%: recent commits and steady activity), popular (25%: GitHub stars, log scale), easy to install (20%: platforms, install notes, setup guides, Docker image) and light to run (15%: minimum RAM, ARM support). When the source code has been checked, a fifth factor, security check (20%: automated scan for committed secrets, unsafe desktop-app settings, known-vulnerable dependencies and project hygiene; any serious finding caps it at 20), is added. Factors without data are left out and the rest are rescaled.

First-install notes

  • Fill in camera and MQTT settings Before starting, set AMCREST_HOST, AMCREST_PASSWORD, MQTT_HOST, MQTT_USERNAME, and MQTT_PASSWORD to your camera and MQTT details. Without them, the container cannot connect to the camera or publish data to the messaging hub. source
  • Turn on Home Assistant discovery Set HOME_ASSISTANT to "true" if you use Home Assistant. This lets Home Assistant find the camera-related items automatically instead of manually adding them. source
  • Run one container per Amcrest device A single container supports one Amcrest device only, so install a separate container for each additional camera or NVR. source

Common questions

Which environment variables configure Amcrest2mqtt's connection to an Amcrest camera?

Use AMCREST_HOST, AMCREST_PORT, AMCREST_USERNAME, and AMCREST_PASSWORD. AMCREST_HOST is required, AMCREST_PORT defaults to 80, and AMCREST_USERNAME defaults to admin.

Do I need a separate Amcrest2mqtt container for each Amcrest camera?

Multiple Docker containers will need to be installed to support more than one Amcrest device.

Does Amcrest2mqtt support Home Assistant autodiscovery?

It supports autodiscovery via Home Assistant.

Does Amcrest2mqtt reliably work with an Amcrest AD410 doorbell camera?

One user used it with an AD410 to send motion and human detection to Home Assistant. The user reported that the add-on frequently went offline and needed restarting.
