Health score?A 0-100 score computed nightly from four factors: maintained (40%: recent commits and steady activity), popular (25%: GitHub stars, log scale), easy to install (20%: platforms, install notes, setup guides, Docker image) and light to run (15%: minimum RAM, ARM support). When the source code has been checked, a fifth factor, security check (20%: automated scan for committed secrets, unsafe desktop-app settings, known-vulnerable dependencies and project hygiene; any serious finding caps it at 20), is added. Factors without data are left out and the rest are rescaled.

First-install notes

  • Install Node.js and build tools first For the release zip install, put Node.js 22 (the program PiGallery2 runs on) and the build tools (helpers that compile extra modules) on your machine before running `npm install`. Without them, PiGallery2 may not start or extra modules can fail to build. source
  • Run it and sign in with admin/admin After installation, start PiGallery2 by running `npm start` (the command that launches the app), then log in with the default `admin/admin` account. Without that login, you can't open the app to add photos or configure the gallery. source
  • Create PiGallery2 config folders If you use the advanced Docker/Nginx setup (a web-server setup for PiGallery2), create the config folders shown in the docs, especially `~/configs/pigallery2/config`, before starting PiGallery2. That folder keeps PiGallery2 settings, so you can back them up and avoid losing your gallery configuration. source
