First-install notes

  • Make Linux AppImage executable If you use the Linux AppImage, open a terminal and run chmod +x on the downloaded file. This gives it run permission; without it, Linux will refuse to start it. source
  • Start Windows ssh-agent for SSH keys If you'll use KeePassXC's SSH key features, open Windows PowerShell and set the ssh-agent service to Automatic, then start it. This service handles SSH keys, so key setup or use will not work if it is off. source
  • Allow screenshots if needed If you need to capture the screen, start KeePassXC with the --allow-screencapture startup option. By default the app blocks screenshots to keep your password list hidden. source
  • PUID/PGID Configure PUID and PGID to match your host user and group IDs. source
  • User mapping Set PUID and PGID to map the container user and group to the intended host user. source

Common questions

How are user and group permissions handled in the LinuxServer.io KeePassXC container?

The container supports easy user mappings using PGID and PUID.

Does KeePassXC include built-in synchronization for its database?

No, KeePassXC does not have its own syncing capability, and the developers suggest using a third-party method.
