Platform availability

Available on 6 of 9 platforms

Health score?A 0-100 score computed nightly from four factors: maintained (40%: recent commits and steady activity), popular (25%: GitHub stars, log scale), easy to install (20%: platforms, install notes, setup guides, Docker image) and light to run (15%: minimum RAM, ARM support). When the source code has been checked, a fifth factor, security check (20%: automated scan for committed secrets, unsafe desktop-app settings, known-vulnerable dependencies and project hygiene; any serious finding caps it at 20), is added. Factors without data are left out and the rest are rescaled.

First-install notes

  • Fill in SECRET_KEY and BASE_URL first Before starting Planka, edit the Docker setup file (docker-compose.yml) and set SECRET_KEY to a long random code and BASE_URL to the address you’ll use in your browser. If these are missing or wrong, Planka may not start, may send you to the wrong address, or your login may not stay signed in. source
  • Create your admin account before using it Use the Docker command shown in the docs to create your first admin user. Without this, you may be able to open Planka but have no account to log in with. source
  • Keep your Planka folder and key safe Keep the folder where you downloaded the Docker setup file (the docs use /opt/planka) because it contains your settings and SECRET_KEY. If you delete it or lose the key, you may have to reconfigure Planka or lose access to your saved setup. source

Common questions

What environment variables must I set before starting Planka with Docker?

Before starting Planka, set SECRET_KEY to a long random value and BASE_URL to the browser address in docker-compose.yml. If they are missing or wrong, Planka may not start, may send you to the wrong address, or your login may not stay signed in.

Can I upgrade from the Community edition to PLANKA Pro without reinstalling?

Pro upgrades an existing Community installation in place, using your database and volume. It adds Valkey and runs a one-off schema promote, but accepts only Community 2.1.x or 2.2.x as a starting point. The upgrade is one-way, so take a backup first or test on a copy.
