CloudBeaver is a self-hosted, web-based database manager that provides a rich browser interface for connecting to and managing PostgreSQL, MySQL, MariaDB, SQLite, Firebird, and other databases. Built as a Java server with a React frontend, it is ideal for developers and DBAs who want a convenient, browser-accessible database administration tool without a desktop client.

Health score?A 0-100 score computed nightly from four factors: maintained (40%: recent commits and steady activity), popular (25%: GitHub stars, log scale), easy to install (20%: platforms, install notes, setup guides, Docker image) and light to run (15%: minimum RAM, ARM support). When the source code has been checked, a fifth factor, security check (20%: automated scan for committed secrets, unsafe desktop-app settings, known-vulnerable dependencies and project hygiene; any serious finding caps it at 20), is added. Factors without data are left out and the rest are rescaled.

First-install notes

  • Create the .env settings file Run cp .env.example .env to create the .env file, then fill in your chosen settings before starting CloudBeaver. The app uses this file for configuration, so missing values can prevent a normal first start. source
  • Set up the admin account file Put an initial-data.conf file in {WORKSPACE}/conf/ and set adminName (the admin username) and adminPassword there. Admin accounts are not created automatically, so without this file you may have no admin login for first setup. source
  • Find the external IP in Google Cloud If you are running CloudBeaver on Google Cloud, use the gcloud command to get the instance's external IP address, which is the public address you open in a browser. Without it, you may not know where to reach the server and begin first-run setup. source
  • Run in Docker Run the official Docker image dbeaver/cloudbeaver from Docker Hub. source

Common questions

Why does CloudBeaver fail a normal first start with Docker Compose?

Copy .env.example to .env and fill in your chosen settings before starting CloudBeaver. Missing values in the .env file can prevent a normal first start.

How is the first admin account created?

Put an initial-data.conf file in {WORKSPACE}/conf/ and set adminName and adminPassword there. Admin accounts are not created automatically, so without this file you may have no admin login for first setup.

Can CloudBeaver run on a non-Oracle JVM?

CloudBeaver is installed in an environment such as Docker or Kubernetes, and depending on the runtime and JVM it does not have to be Oracle. It can be fast and less memory consuming.

What self-hosting concerns should I handle beyond just starting the container?

Self-hosting should use correct ports, persistent storage, HTTPS, secrets, backups, and upgrade checks. Workspace permissions can also fail and need fixing.
