Health score?A 0-100 score computed nightly from four factors: maintained (40%: recent commits and steady activity), popular (25%: GitHub stars, log scale), easy to install (20%: platforms, install notes, setup guides, Docker image) and light to run (15%: minimum RAM, ARM support). When the source code has been checked, a fifth factor, security check (20%: automated scan for committed secrets, unsafe desktop-app settings, known-vulnerable dependencies and project hygiene; any serious finding caps it at 20), is added. Factors without data are left out and the rest are rescaled.

First-install notes
- Set your domain and cert email first Put NETBIRD_DOMAIN (the web address you'll use) and NETBIRD_LETSENCRYPT_EMAIL (contact for automatic HTTPS certificates) in setup.env before starting. This matters because the certificate and URLs depend on it, so a missing or wrong value can make the dashboard unreachable. source
- Create an owner account at first run When setup is required, create the first owner account with your email and a password of at least 8 characters. Without this owner account, you cannot log in or manage the NetBird network. source
- Save the setup key for your devices Create a setup key and keep the key string safe, then use it when registering each computer. The key is what lets a new device join the network, so if it is lost, expired, or revoked, new devices cannot connect. source

Common questions
Which setup.env values should I configure before starting a self-hosted NetBird Management instance?
Set NETBIRD_DOMAIN to the web address you will use and NETBIRD_LETSENCRYPT_EMAIL to the contact for automatic HTTPS certificates before starting. A missing or wrong value can make the dashboard unreachable.
What other services are part of a self-hosted NetBird stack?
Self-hosted NetBird uses the Management Service and Management UI Dashboard, plus a Signal Service, a Coturn STUN/TURN service, and an identity provider.
Where should I start when self-hosted NetBird peers cannot connect?
Check whether the TURN server is reachable, whether peer-to-peer connections are failing, and whether the Management service itself is reachable.
