EXPERIMENTAL: PostgreSQL 18.3 with VectorChord 1.1.1 and pgvector 0.8.2 for Immich. VectorChord is the successor to pgvecto.rs and uses RaBitQ compression for efficient vector search. Immich uses these extensions for face recognition (face_index) and CLIP-based image search (clip_index). This image uses the official TensorChord image with an optimized PostgreSQL configuration (based on Immich defaults: 512MB shared_buffers, SSD-optimized I/O parameters). SSD vs HDD: This template ships with SSD-tuned settings (effective_io_concurrency=200, random_page_cost=1.2). If your database runs on an HDD, edit the Post Arguments and remove these two parameters to use PostgreSQL defaults. Note: The official Immich image is ghcr.io/immich-app/postgres – this template uses the latest VectorChord version directly from TensorChord instead. Watch the Immich base-images repo for configuration updates:

Health score?A 0-100 score computed nightly from four factors: maintained (40%: recent commits and steady activity), popular (25%: GitHub stars, log scale), easy to install (20%: platforms, install notes, setup guides, Docker image) and light to run (15%: minimum RAM, ARM support). When the source code has been checked, a fifth factor, security check (20%: automated scan for committed secrets, unsafe desktop-app settings, known-vulnerable dependencies and project hygiene; any serious finding caps it at 20), is added. Factors without data are left out and the rest are rescaled.

First-install notes

  • Create the config file Make a folder called config and download the example config.yaml into it, because that file tells the Kiosk what to show. If you don't have it, the app starts with no settings and won't know your Immich server. source
  • Fill in your Immich connection In config.yaml, set immich_url to your Immich server address and immich_api_key to the key from your Immich settings. Without a valid key and URL, the Kiosk can't read your photos and the screen will stay empty. source
  • Start the Kiosk container After saving config.yaml, run docker compose up -d to start the Kiosk in the background. If you skip this step, the container never launches and the Kiosk won't appear. source

Common questions

Is this template the official Immich Postgres image?

No, it is an experimental template built on PostgreSQL 18.3 with VectorChord 1.1.1 and pgvector 0.8.2. The official Immich image is a different Postgres image.

What should I change if my Immich database is on an HDD?

Remove effective_io_concurrency=200 and random_page_cost=1.2 from the Post Arguments so PostgreSQL uses its defaults.

How can I recover a broken Immich 1.9.5 setup on unRAID caused by Postgres configuration?

Use the unRAID-specific fix by changing the Postgres instance instead of following Docker Compose instructions.

Is VectorChord the successor to the older pgvecto.rs extension?

Yes, VectorChord is described as the successor to pgvecto.rs and was developed by the same team.

What ongoing database care matters for Immich vector indexes?

Keep vector indexes healthy with autovacuum and reindexes. Be careful with Postgres major version jumps because the database is where Immich upgrades can bite.
