Health score?A 0-100 score computed nightly from four factors: maintained (40%: recent commits and steady activity), popular (25%: GitHub stars, log scale), easy to install (20%: platforms, install notes, setup guides, Docker image) and light to run (15%: minimum RAM, ARM support). When the source code has been checked, a fifth factor, security check (20%: automated scan for committed secrets, unsafe desktop-app settings, known-vulnerable dependencies and project hygiene; any serious finding caps it at 20), is added. Factors without data are left out and the rest are rescaled.

First-install notes

  • Set up Docker and point it to your folders Download the official docker-compose.yml file (the settings file that tells Docker what to run), edit the path values to point to real folders for your comics and settings, then run docker compose up -d. If you skip the path changes, the Docker container may store things in a temporary spot and you can lose your library or settings later. source
  • Grab the setup token from the logs After a fresh start, watch the server or container logs (the scrolling startup messages) for a line like [SETUP] Setup token: <token>. You need that token to finish first-run setup, or you may not be able to create your account. source
  • Open port 8090 for the web app If you use the non-Docker start commands, the backend (the server side of the app) runs on port 8090, the address your browser uses to reach it. Open that port if the page won't load, or your computer will block the connection. source

Common questions

How do I finish initial setup on a fresh install?

Watch the server or container logs for a line like [SETUP] Setup token: <token>. Use that token to complete first-run setup.

Why might I lose my library or settings in Docker?

If you use the provided docker-compose.yml, edit the path values to point to real folders for comics and settings. Otherwise the container may store data in a temporary location.

What causes Docker permission errors?

Files can be owned by the wrong user when PUID and PGID do not match the owner of the mounted volumes. Run id on the host and set those values in docker-compose.yml.

Can I import an existing comic collection or migrate from Mylar3?

Yes. Comicarr can import an existing collection or migrate from Mylar3.

Which metadata sources are supported for comics and manga?

Comic imports use ComicVine, including imports from Metron search results. Manga-only libraries can use MangaDex or MyAnimeList, and MyAnimeList requires a client ID.

How do I send the library to a comic reader?

Comicarr provides OPDS feeds for readers such as Panels and Chunky. The relevant configuration is in config.ini.
